about

ORBITS CD Keyboard Extravaganza never released before as the cassette master tape had been lost. Recorded in 1979 in Wickford, Essex, UK. Using a wide range of early electronic keyboards: Yamaha CS60, CS30, CS30L, CS15, CS10, CS5, CS40M, E1010, Roland Jupiter 4 and CS78 Drum Machine, Farfisa Soundmaker, Hammond X5, Arp Strings, EMS Synthi and Elka.
"Mike Beecher is a pioneer of electromusic and should be recognised as such before the degenerative bone-marrow cancer which has recently afflicted him takes over".
He still continues to perform and support charities in the UK and was the first producer of on-screen notation from live playing of midi instruments through his company Electromusic Research Ltd (EMR) based in Essex, UK.
In collaboration with Maplin Electronics, he was Founding Editor of 'Electronics & Music Maker' (E&MM), the first magazine to bring electronics, music and computing together, where he transcribed the music of Kraftwerk, Jon Lord, Jean Michel-Jarre, Kate Bush, Cliff Richard, Tangerine Dream and many others; and also Home Studio Recording, the first magazine for making music in home studios.
EMR produced the first music software for BBC, Amstrad, MSX, Atari, Acorn and Spectrum in collaboration with Rose-Morris (later Korg UK).
There is a 12 min free mix of tracks from the album on SoundCloud, but to get all the full tracks to keep you can make me a donation for the Hematology Day Unit, Basildon Hospital of just £4.50 or more if you really want to help them look after me!
It was recorded using 2 reel-to-reel tape recorders bouncing tracks one at a time with countless hours of retakes and re-balancing. The synthesizer tonal changes had to be live during the playing and only a Maplin Spring Reverb and Watkins Copicat Delay were used for effects.
It took 4 hours to setup the gear for a concert and it was first performed at the London Roundhouse with his Modern Contemporary Dance Company.
Soon after, he started the first synthesizer school in London with Amrik Luther and the main music companies including Korg, Roland and Yamaha.
